ARTISTS STATEMENT
Ken Rosenthal's evocative work explores issues of personal and collective memory. His series Seen and Not Seen is constructed from photos in his family archives. Many images that left distinct memories for him were made before he was born, and the series examines the phenomenon of memory formed by image as opposed to experience. Rosenthal's distinctive, diffused printing style strips away the specificity of place and identity from his subjects, allowing a universal reading from autobiographical material. His latest series, A Dream Half Remembered, focuses on the shards of memory retained from the dream state, and the oftentimes-random structure and narrative of dreams.
